Small Grants

Our Small Grants Programme provides grants of between £500 to £4,500 towards revenue or capital costs. Last year we made 25 small grants, awarding £55,000. Grants ranged from £500 to £4,300 and the average grant size was around £2,200. To get an idea of the size of grant we make, and the types of organisations we have supported, you can see a list of grants made in our Annual Accounts.

The next application deadline for Small Grants is 11th March 2026.

Eligibility

We welcome applications from all charities and groups who meet our aims. We encourage all applicants to read our full eligibility criteria (see page Our Priorities) and to contact the Trust Manager to discuss your eligibility and project before applying.

Before you apply, please check that you are eligible. Please make sure you can say ‘yes’ to the following questions:

  • Is your group a registered charity/pursuing charitable purposes?
  • If you are not a registered charity, can you provide a copy of your governing document which meets our criteria? See 'Our Priorities' page with outlines our requirements.
  • Do you have at least three members on your organisation's governing body (e.g. Board of Trustees; Directors; committee)
  • Does your project or work take place in Westmorland?
  • Does your project or work meet the priority areas of the Trust?
  • Can you provide a copy of your last audited/signed accounts and most recent bank statement?
  • Do you have 3 separate quotes for capital projects, and is planning permission secure if needed?

Important Update

The Trust has recently completed a scheduled strategic review. This has resulted in a small number of changes to our eligibility criteria, and we ask all potential applicants to our 2026 grants programmes to review our eligibility criteria before applying (these are listed on the page ‘Our Priorities’). Applicants are also encouraged to contact the Trust Manager for further guidance before planning or preparing an application so we can advise you of any changes which may impact you.
