The Frieda Scott Trust is an independent grant making Trust based in Kendal. We work with charities and community groups in Westmorland who support people facing disadvantage. The Trust generally makes grants of between £500 and £20,000 and distributes approximately £350,000 every year. Grants are made towards running costs, project costs and capital costs. We also provide grants to support organisational development.
We give smaller groups and projects the resources they need to make a difference to the lives of people across our local area. By working with groups who are based in, and understand the needs of, our community we aim to reach those facing the greatest levels of isolation, exclusion and disadvantage.
Our Main Grants provide grants of between £4,500 to £20,000 towards revenue or capital costs (excluding applications for village and community halls). Multiyear grants are available to groups who have previously received funding from the Trust.
Our Small Grants provide grants of up to £4,500 towards revenue or capital costs. Village and community halls can apply for small capital grants under this programme.
Step Change provides grants to support groups to build their capacity. For example, helping to pay for training or specialist advice.
We encourage all potential applicants to contact us for a chat before applying.
In 2024 The Frieda Scott Trust is proud to celebrate 50 years of grant-making.
Throughout 2024 and 2025 the Trust is hosting a series of events with grant holders and community groups across the area. The aim of these events is to help us to hear about the experiences of groups working in our community. The information and insights we gather during this process will help to inform our future strategy and plans.
